ITTA BENA, Miss.–A bomb threat sent in a letter to Mississippi Valley State University had the campus shut down while search dogs, the MBI and the FBI searched the campus Thursday. That search may last through the weekend, as more than 20 buildings at the Itta Bena campus and in LeFlore County were being searched for any sign of a bomb.
Neither school officials, nor law enforcement would get specific about what the letter said, or why it prompted such an extensive search.
Students were sent home just before 2 p.m. Thursday. All Thursday classes were nixed and, as of Friday morning, no classes were expected to happen again until Tuesday, when students return after the Martin Luther King, Jr. holiday.
“It has been strongly recommended by law enforcement officials that students leave the campus. Students are directed to leave the campus this weekend,” was the message from the school.
The University said Friday’s basketball games against Alcorn State had been moved to another location and the games set for Monday against Southern had been canceled.
