The Mississippi Department of Corrections said Monday evening it locked down its prisons after an inmate died after a disturbance at a prison.
This so-called “disturbance” happened on Sunday at the South Mississippi Correctional Institution in Greene County.
There is no word on what exactly this disturbance was or how the inmate died, but two other inmates were left with non-life-threatening injuries.
This lockdown applies not just to the three state prisons but to the three private prisons and the 15 regional jails that house state inmates throughout Mississippi.
MDOC is still investigating exactly what happened to cause the death of an inmate in one of its facilities.
