JACKSON, Miss. — After a weekend of hot weather in Mississippi, temperatures are expected to plummet heading into Christmas day.
The magnolia state saw bad weather sweep through on Saturday night that killed two people before the sun came up Sunday.
“It’ll be as cold as the mid-teens in north Mississippi,” said National Weather Service meteorologist Latrice Maxie. “There are parts of that area that will fall to around 15 degrees.”
She says that cold, high pressure that’s already in the state is helping the temperature fall throughout the week.
“For central Mississippi, they’ll be somewhere around 20 degrees,” she said. “And for the coast they’ll be in the mid-20’s.”
Because of the cold, dry air, no precipitation is expected in the state and that means no white Christmas even though the temperature will be low enough.
