TULSA, Okla.–William Allen had just moved from Hattiesburg to Tulsa, Okla. when he was shot and killed Easter weekend 2012. The two men who did the shooting were out to kill black people, according to prosecutors and one of the men’s Facebook page. Now, both are going to prison for life.
The hate crime drew national attention. Jake England, 19, and Alvin Watts, 33, drove to north Tulsa, an area that is populated by a diverse mix of people, to find black people to shoot. England said it was because his father was killed by an African-American
Monday the two changed their plea from not guilty to guilty. The admitted they shot five people. Three of them died, including Allen.
“I have never seen such a senseless crime for no reason, never in my career, and I hope I never see this again,” said Doug Drummond, Assistant District Attorney to the News on 6.
He said the deal meant the two did not have an appeal and could not get parole.
