The Mississippi Department of Human Services will be issuing their April benefits early to help out the program’s recipients. Due to January’s partial government shutdown, MDHS issued their February and March SNAP benefits early in an effort to shorten the amount of time between the issuance dates. MDHS said the April SNAP benefits will be issued on April 12th, 2019.
“This month will be our last of the special issuance of SNAP benefits,” said MDHS Executive Director John Davis. “If recipients are scheduled to receive their benefits before April 12 they will still receive them on April 12. Regular issuance of SNAP will resume in May.”
Davis clarified that the benefits will not expire for another 12 months.
“Once issued and available on your EBT card, your SNAP benefits are available for food purchases for one year after the date they are issued,” Davis said. “You do not have to spend the entire benefit amount during the month it is issued.”
