Governor Bryant has officially endorsed Lt. Governor Tate Reeves ahead of November’s gubernatorial election.
In an interview with Y’all Politics, Governor Bryant stated that his working relationship with Reeves ensures him that Reeves is ready to lead the state after he leaves office.
“One of the things a Governor does is have a really strong relationship with his Republican Lt. Governor. Tate Reeves and I have not only worked together for the last eight years but even before that when he was State Treasurer. I think he’ll do an excellent job as Governor and that is why I’m supporting Tate Reeves as the next Governor for the state of Mississippi,” Governor Bryant said.
Reeves is currently in a Republican primary race against State Rep. Robert Foster, and former Mississippi Supreme Court Justice Bill Waller Jr., who just recently entered the race. After receiving the Governor’s endorsement, Reeves said he’s honored to have his support.
“Phil Bryant has been a tremendous leader for our state, and his work has made a real difference for Mississippians. I’m honored to have his support, and I’m looking forward to continuing our efforts to help Mississippi workers and families as governor,” Reeves said.
The Governor went on to say that he will do everything he can to help Reeves during the campaign process, just as he did during the Senate race after he appointed Cindy Hyde-Smith.
“There’s no way to be ‘a little bit involved’ into a campaign,” Bryant said. “I’m going to work hard, get on the bus, make phone calls, and contribute, and I’m going to do all that I can.”
As for President Trump, Governor Bryant mentioned that he has been in contact with the White House about the race, and that President Trump will “probably be back” in Mississippi at some point.
Current Attorney General Jim Hood and retired JSU official Velesha Williams are the Democrats in the race, with Hood being the presumed nominee for the party.
