Mississippi State has filled another vacancy on their coaching staff.
After hiring new RB and WR coaches, the Bulldogs have hired Deke Adams away from UNC as the team’s new DL coach. Adams’ arrival comes after Brian Baker left Starkville to become the new DL Coach at Alabama.
Adams is a Meridian native, and he played at Southern Miss before embarking on his 20+ year coaching career.
“We are excited to welcome Deke back to the state of Mississippi,” head coach Joe Moorhead said. “His enthusiasm, track record of developing defensive linemen and familiarity with our recruiting footprint make him a perfect fit for our program. Deke understands that one of the hallmarks of Mississippi State football is elite defensive line play and development. There is no doubt we will continue that tradition under his watch.”
Adams’ career includes stops at UNC, East Carolina, South Carolina, Southern Miss and many others, and he is eager to return to Mississippi.
“This is an amazing opportunity to be back in the great state of Mississippi,” Adams said. “Mississippi is home for me and my family. I’m looking forward to being a part of a great program and working with a defensive line unit that has a strong tradition.”
According to MSU, Adams has played a key role in the development of six NFL draft selections since 2013, including two first-round picks. Most notably, Adams had the chance to develop Jadeveon Clowney when he was at South Carolina, and Clowney went on to become the top pick in the 2014 NFL Draft.
Adams inherits a DL at Mississippi State that must replace two of the nation’s best lineman with Jeffrey Simmons and Montez Sweat headed to the NFL.
