This morning, around 2:00 a.m., the city of Laurel announced on Facebook that their Police Chief, Tyrone Stewart, unexpectedly passed away. He was suddenly hospitalized and listed in critical condition in the ICU.
The city posted that they are asking for prayers for his family during this difficult time and will post when arrangements have been made.
For the immediate future, the Laurel Police Department will be led by Captains Tommy Cox, Shane Valentine and Deputy Chief Billy Chandler.
The Mayor and employees of the city of Laurel are in prayer with the Stewart family.
