State Senator Terry Burton has suffered a stroke.
According to a statement from Lt. Governor Tate Reeves, Senator Burton is undergoing medical treatment after he had a stroke earlier today.
“Please join me and Elee in praying for Senator Burton and his family,” Reeves said.
Burton recently stepped down from his role as Pro Tempore of the Mississippi Senate following a December DUI charge, and he said he was seeking professional help.
He also announced that he would not seek re-election to the seat that he has held since 1992.
Burton represents District 31, which includes Lauderdale, Newton and Scott counties.
