Due to the holiday season and bad weather in Mississippi right now, Mississippi Blood Services is experiencing a devastatingly low blood supply and is currently unable to fill their hospital orders.
MBS is looking for all blood types because they have zero platelets available for export.
They are urging all donors to donate as soon as possible, anywhere in Mississippi, to help make sure blood is available to Mississippi patients.
Emily Austin with MBS said they received word this morning that a major hospital is canceling all “routine/non emergency surges” due to the blood shortage.
She said they are in an increasingly dangerous situation with the blood supply and without an influx of donors, the situation is only going to get worse.
