Three suspects are behind bars after a Mississippi sheriff’s son was the target of a drive-by shooting last Friday.
Ramon Mattox, the son of Noxubee County Sheriff Terry Grassaree, was on North Street in Macon when he was shot in the chest three times. Mattox was taken to a local hospital and has since been released after he was initially listed in stable condition.
On Tuesday, the Macon Police Department announced that they had arrested 39-year-old Terrance Fifer and charged him with Attempted Murder.
A woman named Jamesha Earvin was also arrested, and while her role in the shooting was not made clear, she was charged with Accessory after the Fact.
Now, a third suspect has been arrested. The MPD arrested 29-year-old David Hampton, of Meridian, after he allegedly shot Mattox in the chest. Hampton has officially been charged with Attempted Murder and Possession of a Weapon by a Convicted Felon.
Fifer was the first suspect to be arrested, and while he was originally charged with Attempted Murder, the MPD is still working to determine who the shooter was. A post on the Noxubee County Sheriff’s Office Facebook page states that Hampton is now thought to be the alleged shooter.
“With our investigation, we think we’re pretty sure that [Hampton] is the shooter. We’re still currently investigating,” Macon Police Chief Davine Beck said. “We’re trying not to release as much as we can release on this case because we don’t want the case to be compromised.”
No motive for the shooting is known at this time.
