More Mississippians will be getting their health insurance from the Affordable Care Act or Obamacare. State Insurance Commissioner Mike Chaney said that preliminary data for the 2019 Open Enrollment period shows that more Mississippians signed up than in recent years.
Approximately 8.5 million people enrolled for 2019 coverage compared to 8.8 million at the same time last year. While enrollment numbers remain steady nationally, the number of Mississippians enrolled in the exchange increased significantly.
Chaney said roughly 88,000 Mississippians are currently enrolled for 2019, a 12% increase over 2018’s numbers.
“It is likely that consumers will continue to access individual coverage through the Exchange so long as tax subsidies remain available,” said Insurance Commissioner Mike Chaney.
Magnolia Health is Mississippi’s only Federal Exchange insurance provider in all 82 of the state’s counties.
