On December 10th, 1817, Mississippi was officially recognized as the 20th state in the United States of America and today, Mississippi celebrates 201 years.
Mississippi’s first capital was located in Natchez and moved to Jackson in 1822. Last year, the Museum of Mississippi History and the Mississippi Civil Rights Museum opened their doors on Mississippi’s Bicentennial birthday.
The Mississippi Bicentennial Celebration Commission said they spent last year honoring Mississippi’s people, places, music, food, achievements in agriculture, science and industry, sports legends and more.
