Cooper Tire has opened their expanded distribution center in Byhalia making it the company’s largest distribution center in the country.
The project was announced in February, and the company has now opened their new 1 million-square-foot warehouse which will create 100 new jobs in the area.
According to Cooper Tire, the new facility allows them to efficiently consolidate and distribute products directly to customers as well as supply its regional distribution centers. The warehouse has the capacity to expand to an additional 400,000 square feet as needed in the future.
At the time of the announcement, Governor Bryant praised the company’s decision to expand in Mississippi.
“Mississippi is committed to providing companies like Cooper Tire with distinct business advantages,” Gov. Phil Bryant said. “These advantages arm them with the resources needed to excel in today’s global marketplace and create good jobs for the state’s dedicated workforce.”
The Mississippi Development Authority, the Marshall County Board of Supervisors and the Marshall County Industrial Development Authority provided assistance for public infrastructure needs, including water, wastewater, gas, and roads during the expansion.
“North Mississippi provides optimal locations for companies with distribution and warehousing needs, such as Cooper Tire,” said MDA Executive Director Glenn McCullough, Jr. “The region’s robust transportation network and proximity to major U.S. markets positions Cooper Tire for many years of success in Marshall County just as the company has enjoyed at its other Mississippi locations.”
The project was a $50.5 million investment — $10 million by Cooper and $40.5 million by private developers.
