After sustaining a neck injury during Saturday’s win over Arkansas, Ole Miss WR D.K. Metcalf’s season is over.
During his weekly press conference this morning, head coach Matt Luke confirmed the diagnosis while stating that he will make a full recovery from the injury that will likely require surgery.
“It is worse than we originally thought. He’ll be done for the season…long-term, he’ll bounce back and he’ll be fine. We’ll make sure he gets the very best care,” Luke said.
To this point, Metcalf had 26 catches for 569 yards on the season while leading the team with 5 TDs. Along with A.J. Brown, Metcalf has been regarded as a potential first-round draft pick in next year’s NFL draft should he decide to declare. It remains to be seen how this injury will affect that decision.
This will be the second season-ending injury Metcalf has sustained during his Ole Miss career after breaking his foot during his freshman season in 2016.
