The gates to the 159th Mississippi State Fair will officially open at tomorrow at 5:00 p.m. Those traveling around the fairgrounds in downtown Jackson should be aware of changes in the traffic pattern. Beginning at 6:00 p.m. today, East Amite Street will be closed from North Street to Jefferson Street. Jefferson Street will be reduced from four to two lanes at the fairgrounds.
Security for the fair will be provided by multiple agencies. The Jackson Police Department (JPD), Hinds County Sheriff’s Department (HCSO), the Mississippi State Fair Commission and the State Capitol Police will combine resources for the two-week run of the fair.
In addition, officials from the Jackson Fire Department, Mississippi Highway Patrol, Mississippi Agriculture and Livestock Theft Bureau of the Mississippi Department of Agriculture and Commerce, Mississippi Department of Corrections, AMR, Mississippi Emergency Management Agency, Hinds EOC, Mississippi State Department of Health, Department of Homeland Security, Mississippi Tort Claims Board, National Weather Service, Mississippi Fusion Center and the State Fire Marshal’s Office are working together to ensure a safe fair.
The fair will run through Sunday, October 14th, with a gate admission price of $5.00 per person. Children under the age of 6 are admitted free of charge.
