Tropical Storm Gordon has been downgraded to a Tropical Depression, however, after the storm hit the Mississippi Gulf Coast Tuesday night, many are without power.
Singing River Electric Co-op is reporting nearly 7,000 outages at this time. Crews from the 4-County Electric Power Association and the Northcentral Electric Power Association left Wednesday morning to assist Singing River Electric Power Association with storm restoration work.
Two seven-man crews (an all-volunteer group from 4-County Electric) left Columbus about 7 a.m. on their way to Singing River, based in Lucedale and serving areas in and around the Mississippi Gulf Coast. Singing River, serves about 73,000 members.
In addition to the crews, 4-County is sending several large pieces of equipment to assist in the recovery process, including bucket trucks, digger derrick trucks, and service/pickup trucks.
Electric cooperatives around the state and nation operate under a reciprocal agreement to provide help to each other in times of crisis.
“We are glad to be in a position to send this assistance to help restore power to members of Singing River,” said 4-County Manager of Operations Anthony Miller. “Our system and members have been the recipients of assistance from other electric cooperatives and we are always glad to be able to help others when they need assistance. That’s the cooperative way.”
