Labor Day weekend brings the start of Dove and Alligator hunting in the Magnolia state and Mississippians will also celebrate the 2nd Amendment Sales Tax Holiday.
For the fifth time, Mississippi will remove the 7% state sales tax for anyone in the state buying firearms, ammunition, archery equipment, and various hunting supplies.
The tax-free weekend happens every year during the first weekend of September. This year, the holiday will take place between 12:01 A.M. Friday, August 31, 2018, and 12:00 Midnight Sunday, September 2, 2018.
The law creating the 2nd Amendment Sales Tax Holiday was introduced during the 2014 Legislative Session,
Hunting Supplies are defined as the following items when used for hunting: archery equipment, firearm and archery cases, firearm and archery accessories, hearing protection, holsters, belts, and slings. While the sale of general hunting supplies are not exempt, hunting supplies do not include animals used for hunting.
