This week, State Auditor Stacey Pickering is hosting the 2018 National State Auditors’ Association (NSAA) Conference on the Mississippi Gulf Coast in Biloxi. Approximately 150 elected and appointed state auditors and their staff from across the nation will be in attendance.
During the conference, attendees will hear from current Mississippi Governor Phil Bryant along with former Mississippi governor, Haley Barbour who will discuss leadership lessons from Hurricane Katrina with the group.
The State of Mississippi has been an example to other states in managing federal disaster relief funds, and State Auditor Stacey Pickering and other senior staff from OSA serve on committees to ensure future disaster relief funds are properly managed. In addition, representatives from Ingalls Shipbuilding will discuss its partnership with the State of Mississippi. Additionally, discussions of fighting Medicaid fraud and other corruption will occur. Annual awards will also be presented to those individuals and agencies for Excellence in Accountability.
“This is a great opportunity to have all of the State Auditors together, dealing with accountability for the taxpayers, said Mississippi State Auditor Stacey Pickering. “We are making sure that we have the training, we have national leaders here all discussing financial stewardship and transparency.”
Pickering added that it is an honor to have a national audience of various State Auditors here in Mississippi and that they are looking forward to showcasing the state and the good things Mississippi has to offer.
The conference will conclude on June 15th.
