A Gulfport woman has died after police say she was attacked by two pit bulls.
The Gulfport Police Department responded to Deidra Court after a caller stated that a woman was being attacked by the two dogs. Responding officers found the 75-year-old woman dead in the yard of a home where she did not live. Emergency responders were called to the scene, but she had already succumbed to her injuries.
Police say that the woman was known to walk around the neighborhood. An initial investigation revealed that the woman apparently opened a closed gate to a fenced yard, and entered. While in the yard, the two pit bulls, who belong to the resident, attacked the woman causing her injuries.
No charges have been filed at this time, but the resident had to surrender the animals to Gulfport Animal Control.
The Gulfport PD called this a “tragic situation” and said that they will continue to investigate.
