A Biloxi man is behind bars and faces charges for allegedly kidnapping and assaulting his girlfriend.
On Monday, officers with the Biloxi Police Department arrested 25-year-old Ryan Wesley Chipman, of Gulfport, on Felony Aggravated Assault and Kidnapping charges.
The charges come as the result of a 911 call from a woman who stated that she had been held against her will at a local hotel since Sunday and that she had been assaulted several times.
According to police, the victim is in her mid-30s and said that she went to the hotel to meet Chipman, her boyfriend. A news release states that when she arrived he immediately began assaulting her several times by punching, slapping and strangling her. She also reported losing consciousness.
Police say that the victim made several attempts to get to a phone to call 911, but she managed to make the call from the hotel office after she was able to escape while Chipman was in another room.
Police arrived on the scene on Beach Boulevard and arrested Chipman. After being transferred to the to the Harrison County Adult Detention Center, Chipman was charged, and his bond was set at $300,000.
The victim suffered minor bruising, scratches and abrasions as a result of the assault and is expected to make a full recovery.
