A husband and wife are dead in an apparent murder-suicide in Rankin County.
Rankin County Deputies responded to Trickhambridge Road in reference to a domestic shooting in the early morning hours of Friday.
A news release states that a family member called the Rankin County Sheriff’s Office and told officers that her father had shot her mother, and then killed himself shortly after.
“A family member called stating that her father had shot her mother, and then retreated to another room in the residence. The caller stated shortly after entering the second room, that they heard another gunshot.” – Rankin County Sheriff’s Office
Officers arrived at the scene on Trickhambridge Road around 3 a.m. When they arrived, deputies found 47-year-old Francine Gilmer suffering from a gunshot wound to the neck, and she was transported to University of Mississippi Medical Center where she would later pass away.
Officers also found the body of 46-year-old Gerald Gilmer Jr. at the home, and he was pronounced dead on the scene from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
The investigation remains ongoing.
