KOSCIUSKO, Miss.–It’s a life sentence for Theotus Barnett in the 2011 killing of Danny Tavares, a used car dealer in Kosciusko. The Tuesday decision by an Attala County judge brings to an end a six year ordeal that started when Tavares was found dead in a bloody crime scene inside his dealership.
Barnett, 52, was arrested in Feb. 2011 in Memphis after his DNA sample was flagged. It matched a DNA sample taken from the crime scene by Kosciusko Police.
It took over a year to get Barnett to Attala County to face the charges.
