JACKSON, Miss.–A state employee will be behind bars for the next decade after pleading guilty to embezzling money.
Stephanie Kelly plead to three counts of embezzlement on Monday and admitted that while she was an account auditor with the Mississippi Department of Vocational Rehabilitation she took over $117,000 over three years.
According to the attorney general’s office she made up fictitious rehab clients along with using real clients and got benefits mailed to her address where she converted them to cash.
“We appreciate Judge Chapman ordering the 10 years behind bars and full restitution as punishment for such greed and blatant disregard for the duties entrusted to this defendant,” said Attorney General Hood.
She’ll also have to pay back all the money as part of her sentencing.
