This morning legislators gathered at the Mississippi Museum of Art to discuss Energy in Mississippi at the fourth Mississippi Economic Council Legislative Scrambler.
The speakers were Senator Sally Doty and Representative Angela Cockerham, the Chairmen for the House and Senate of Energy Committee.
Doty said we are very fortunate in Mississippi because of the diversity of Energy assets we have.
“We have oil and natural gas production, we have gas pipelines going through our state more than any other state, Colonial pipeline originates in Texas and carries gas and fuel products to the atlantic and east coast, and we have a major refinery, Chevron, whose folks are here today,” Doty said. ” We have gas processing plants, diversified electric generation, and we really have significant potential to export natural gas liquids to the Caribbean, Central, and South America just because of our location.”
Cockerham also added that Energy security should be one of the top priorities in the state of Mississippi.
“We have too many energy resources here in the state of Mississippi,” Cockerham said. “As we move forward, I hope that we start thinking about energy security and cyber security in this room as it relates to every one of us in the public sector.”
The next Legislative Scrambler will be on Wednesday, March 14.
