The Millsaps College Political Science Department was able to bring the three political party leaders together at the Mississippi Political Party Leaders Panel on Monday.
Chairwoman Denise Cranford with the Libertarian party, Chairman Bobby Moak with the Democratic party, and Chairman Lucien Smith with the Republican party were all there to speak and let students know what they believe in, how things are organized in their office, and how they engage with voters.
Smith wanted to encourage all students who attended to get involved.
“I hope you’ll all take a look at getting engaged in government at some level. The fact that you’re here, both the fact that you’re at Millsaps and also the fact that you’ve taken the time to be here today is a pretty clear illustration that you are blessed with a set of talents and a set of drive that not everybody has got,” Smith said. “Being blessed in that way whether you choose to be a republican, a democrat or a libertarian, I hope you will get engaged and get involved because decisions get made everyday whether smart people like you show up or not.”
Students had the opportunity to speak with the leaders and ask questions when the panel ended.
