PHILADELPHIA, Miss.–Angry customers who couldn’t get their EBT cards to work took off without paying for groceries and eventually caused the Wal-Mart in Philadelphia, Miss. to close down temporarily over the weekend. What you should know is it wasn’t Wal-Mart’s fault, it was Xerox.
The disturbance in Philadelphia was Saturday night. By that time it had been discovered that EBT cards were not working in 17 states.
Xerox, who is a subcontractor with the federal government in the EBT card technology, is blaming a computer glitch, and said that service was restored by Sunday.
Many were first blaming the widely publicized government shutdown.
