CLARKSDALE, Miss. — A merger is not looking so good. Cooper Tire and Apollo Tire were planning on tying the knot, but it appears to be loosening up because they are too busy deciding whose fault it is for delaying the deal. Cooper owns two facilities in Mississippi, one in Clarksdale and another in Tupelo.
According to the Northeast Mississippi Daily Journal, some of the problems the two companies are facing extend overseas. At one facility, Chinese Cooper Tire workers have refused to work because they do not think the merger is a good idea because of cultural differences. Apollo is also having to deal with labor unions at cooper plants in Arkansas.
If companies merge it would be the seventh largest tire supplier in the world.
