TUPELO, Miss.–The Tupelo Film Festival is undergoing several changes next year in hopes of having an even better product.
The venue will be moving out to the Malco near the Barnes Crossing Mall instead of the usual downtown Lyric Theater where it has been housed for the first ten years of the festival.
“We don’t see this as anything but a big positive for us,” said Tupelo Film Commissioner Pat Rasberry. “There’s all kid of developments around the Malco like restaurants, shops and hotels.”
In 2014 the Mississippi High School Film Competition will also merge with the festival said Rasberry.
“This is for students in grades nine through twelve and only open to Mississippi students,” she said.

Lastly, the festival itself will be moving up to the month of April next year and run from the 17-19th.
“Each year we ran into the problem of graduation being the same weekend as the festival in May,” said Rasberry.
Each year around 150 submissions are entered in the festival and about 55 of them chosen for screenings.
Around 900 people on average attend annually, but they hope to grow that with the new venue and changes on the horizon.
