Along with the rest of the state, the Mississippi Gulf Coast is continuing to feel the effects of the winter weather from Tuesday. Coast Electric has issued a statement to their customers in the area to reduce their electricity usage as rolling blackouts are becoming a possibility.
“Coast Electric is experiencing a critical shortage of electricity. All of our members are asked to reduce their electricity use until further notice. Please turn off all non-essential lighting, appliances and electronics”
The release goes on to say that the low temperatures are putting a strain on the electrical system. They recommend lowering home thermostats to 68 degrees, and reducing usage of washing machines, dryers, and electrical appliances around your home to reduce electricity use. The company says that if the situation does not improve, the rolling blackouts will begin.
“If the situation does not improve, the next step will be to enact the electric cooperative’s emergency load reduction plans, which may result in a loss of electricity for members on a rotating basis.”
