Miss. War on Prescription Drugs

JACKSON, Miss. – Prescription drug abuse is becoming a bigger problem than ever in Mississippi. This year alone 54 pharmacies have been robbed in the state, which is a big increase from last year with only ten. Mississippi Bureau of Narcotics Director Marshall Fisher says it’s mostly the mom and pop pharmacies getting robbed, not the big chains like CVS and Walgreens.

“They’re not even going for the cash register, they are going straight for the schedule two and schedule three narcotics,” said Fisher.

He says ninety percent of the drug overdose last year in Mississippi were from prescription drugs.
