Campers you’ve got to pack up. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Vicksburg District is reducing some of its services, because of this government shutdown.
“All of our camp sites and areas were people bring their motor homes, and areas like that, will be closed. Those that are coming have been turned away. And those that were already there have until 8:00 tonight to vacate the area,” said spokesperson Kavanaugh Breazeale.
This includes, Arkabutla, Sardis, Enid and Grenada lakes. If you had reservations, you’ll get a refund.
Projects that will remain open are: locks and dams, most boat ramps, district lands that are designated for hunting, district lands that are managed by state agencies and ongoing contracted construction projects. Dredging and mat sinking operations will continue as scheduled due to carry-over funding from previous fiscal years.
The Vicksburg District covers parts of Mississippi, Louisiana and Arkansas and has 15 recreation sites that host approximately nine million visitors a year.
