A federal judge said no to a $35 million dollar lawsuit against the City of Tupelo and a police officer over a shooting death last year.

In June of 2016, Antwun, “Ronnie” Shumpert ran from a traffic stop and when a white officer, Tyler Cook, and a K-9 officer found him hiding under a house the two men began to fight.
Investigators said that Cook believed his own weapon would be used against him.

Cook then shot Shumpert four times as he began to lose consciousness while Shumpert punched him in the face.
After the shooting, hundreds of “Our Lives Matter” supporters protested in the city of Tupelo.
A Lee County grand jury decided that Cook would not be indicted, however, Shumpert’s family said that the shooting was not justified.
