JACKSON, Miss.–The takeover by the state of the LeFlore County School District has been blocked, by none other than Hinds County Judge Winston Kidd, the same judge whose injunction effectively stopped the state’s new “Open Carry” law from going into effect for a month.
His order came Monday after attorneys made basically the same argument to Kidd that they did to the state accreditation board last week: That going into conservatorship would hurt the schools, not help.
When the district is taken over by the state, the governor appoints a conservator and the superintendent and school board get the boot.
The district also told the judge they did not get an appeal they felt they were entitled to.
The Claiborne County district, which is also set for takeover, is also trying to get another Hinds County judge to block their cobnservatorship.
