Sunday, Oct. 1 2017, a shooting occurred in Las Vegas near the Mandalay Bay Casino leaving 58 dead and hundreds wounded.
Fox News reported that the suspect gunman has been identified as 64-year-old Stephen Paddock, a resident of Mesquite, Nevada.
Clark County Sheriff Joseph Lombardo said they found over 10 rifles in the room Paddock was staying in, but that they cannot immediately identity a motive. The guns found included fully automatic weapons with high capacity magazines.
President Trump quickly responded to the incident calling it “an act of pure evil.” He commended first responders on their hard work during the episode.
Rep. Bennie G. Thompson (D-MS) who is a member of the Committee on Homeland Security made this statement in regards to the shooting in Las Vegas last night:
“Today, our thoughts and prayers are with the people of Las Vegas and all who were affected by the terrible mass shooting last night. We are forever thankful to the first responders who put their lives on the line to help those in need. Mass shootings have been too common in recent years and it is clear that much more needs to be done. Only if we work together can we counter the forces of terror and hate – no matter the source.”
