Jackson: Scammers posing as JPD asking for donations

The Jackson Police Department has recently been made aware that an individual or group of individuals are posing as representatives of JPD and contacting citizens.

The frauds are soliciting money for equipment, supplies, and other needs. Officers say they are calling from a toll free number and have made it so that the contributor may be ranked with a “status” based on their donation amount.

They’re asking the community to be alert and know that the JPD  will never contact a person via phone, internet or otherwise to ask for or collect donations or payments for any reason.

Those involved in this crime will ask for a method of payment that is difficult to track like a Green Dot Card, or they’ll ask specifically for credit or debit card information.

If you feel that you have been a victim of a scam or have any information of a possible scam, please contact your local authorities or your local Attorney General’s Office.
