Over 1,000 volunteers swarmed the Pearl River this weekend. Working in teams, they dragged litter, debris, trash and other pollutants out of the river that serves as one of Mississippi’s largest watersheds.
From the Pearl’s headwaters in Nanih Waiya (Neshoba County), to the terminus at the Gulf Coast, a wild assortment of trash was collected.
The Pearl River Clean Sweep is hosted by Pearl Riverkeeper: a licensed member of the Waterkeeper Alliance, the largest and fastest growing nonprofit solely focused on clean water.
The Clean Sweep is centered around local community engagement and bringing people together in an effort to make a cleaner, healthier state.
Take a look at just a few of the hauls from this weekend.
