JACKSON, Miss. – The Jackson Zoo was the only zoo in Mississippi that was accredited, but that accreditation was rejected by the Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA) Sunday after a conference in Kansas City, Mo.
The zoo is getting ready to appeal with the accreditation board, while at the same time waiting for the city council’s approval of $1.4 million for zoo operations. AZA guidelines requires zoo funding to be secured. While the zoo is in the appeals process, they will technically still get to keep their accreditation.
