The Salvation Army in Mississippi is preparing to help those dealing with the impacts of Hurricane Harvey as much as they can–but with the storm taking an eastern turn, they’re having to wait before taking action.
“The reason why the Salvation Army here in Mississippi is on standby is because we may need the resources in our district, which is Louisiana, Mississippi, and Alabama in the event of catastrophe,” said Jennifer Stanley with Salvation Army.
There are other branches of the Salvation Army already in Texas, providing meals, shelter, water, and other basic necessities.
Stanley said the biggest need for those in Harvey’s path is water.
“People will need it for drinking, showers, washing clothes…they’ll need all the water they can get,” said Stanley.
Monetary donations are also being accepted.
“They can do that at 1-800-Sal-Army,” said Stanley. “Or they can text the word ‘storm’ to 51555.”
