A spokesman for Governor Phil Bryant has said that the Governor will not call a special legislative session, despite mounting pressure from across the country.
Earlier this week, the Mississippi Legislative Black Caucus sent Governor Bryant a letter urging him to call a special session so lawmakers could address the issue of removing the Confederate battle emblem from the state banner.
The Governor’s office echoed the 2001 referendum that saw a three-fourths majority of Mississippians vote to keep the current flag.
Monday evening, Speaker of the House Philip Gunn made a Facebook post calling for the flag to be changed.
