School might be just around the corner but it isn’t too late to plan a getaway.

According to Hotels.com the most popular locations of choice for this summers travel are overseas.

“Definitely people are looking to get away this summer and into the fall and we are finding that more travelers are interested in heading out of the country with lower cost airfair and more outbound flights from the U.S.,” said Taylor Cole, travel expert with Hotels.com

Whether it’s marking something off your bucket list, or just making a new memory folks are traveling to places like the Eiffel tower, the London Eye, the beaches in Mexico, and even down under to see the Sydney Opera House.

But in order to make that trip out of the U.S. you’ve got to get a passport. Only a third of American’s even own a passport, which is required in order to travel other countries. This process can take four to six weeks to apply for one.

You don’t have to go to another country to have a great vacation. Everyone is still checking out the well known spots, Florida beaches, Las Vegas, and California. However, if you’ve got vacation time near the end of August you might want to catch the coming solar eclipse.

“In a few weeks on August 21st there is going to be a total solar eclipse that will appear across the Midwest,” said Cole. “We are seeing all along that belt an increase in places to stay.”

Cole said the coming fall months are a great time to check out some of the domestic and international locations for your next holiday.
