Ford Motor Company and Toyota are recalling more than 1.3 million vehicles in North America.
Both recalls have to do with the fact that their front passenger airbags are made by Takata, which can explode with too much force and spew metal shrapnel.
The 816-thousand cars being recalled by Ford include the Mustang produced from 2005 to 2009 and 2012, as well as the Ford Fusion, Lincoln MKZ and Lincoln Zephyr from model years 2006 to 2009 and 2012.
Toyota’s recall of 543-thousand cars includes various SUV’s and sedans made between 2006 and 2012. Certain Lexus models are being recalled as well.
Worldwide, more than 100 million vehicles, involving 17 different automakers, have been recalled due to defective Takata air bags.
