The Mississippi Highway Patrol says they will begin the 2017 Fourth of July Holiday Enforcement Period on Friday, June 30, at 6 p.m. and conclude Tuesday, July 4, at midnight.
All available troopers will be out on the roads.
At the checkpoints officers will check licenses and registration and make sure that everyone in the vehicle is wearing their seat belts.
“It’s a big and important tool for us to remove impaired drivers from the road way,” said Capt. Johnny Poulos, Mississippi Highway Patrol.
Poulos also says to check wind shield wipers and that the spare tire isn’t flat before hitting the road.
“If you’re gonna leave if you do have a destination, you’re going somewhere, try to have a plan to leave early so you’re not rushed,” said Capt. Johnny Poulos, Mississippi Highway Patrol.
