JACKSON, Miss. — It was a real busy holiday weekend for state troopers as they worked road blocks and patrolled the streets to help keep you safe.
“We had 163 DUI arrest. We had 199 seatbelt violations and 55 child restraint (violations),” explained Lt. Johnny Poulos, spokesperson for the Mississippi Highway Patrol.
Troopers also worked 135 accidents over the four day weekend. “We had five deaths, but it could have been worse,” said Poulos.
Five people were also killed on Mississippi roadways over the Labor Day weekend last year.
