The Crossroads Clinic provides STD and HIV testing for people in the Metro area. It will be relocating to the Five Points Clinic on the first floor of the Jackson Medical Mall beginning July 5.
“We’re not ‘closing’ Crossroads. We’re essentially going back to our roots and focusing on combating the STD epidemic in the state,” said Dr. James Steward, Director of the Mississippi State Department of Health (MSDH) Office of STD/HIV.
The clinic will begin offering streamlined services as the only stand-alone sexually transmitted disease clinic in the state.
Five Points clinic will continue to serve as a specialty clinic where STD’s can be diagnosed and treated. HIV can also be diagnosed there but patients who are tested positive will be referred to community-based organizations.
“Rather than directly providing early intervention HIV services as Crossroads, we will now be using our funds to support other organizations which provide these services,” said Dr. Steward. “This transition is beneficial for patients because these same organizations also provide HIV treatment. We believe this direct linkage to care gives patients a medical home in a community that they trust.”
The Crossroads clinic will still offer social workers and dental clinic services, but the transition will reduce the duplication of MSDH staff.
Beginning July 1, 2017 there will be a $25 fee for all STD and HIV tests as well as lab work for all MSDH clinics, including Five Points Clinic. Those under 19 or those identified as a contact by disease investigation specialists will not be charged the $25 fee.
