Mississippi is asking a federal appeals court to overturn a judge’s ruling that temporarily blocks authorities from closing the state’s only abortion clinic.
Under a new state law that went into effect last year, all doctors performing abortions in the state must have admitting privileges at a local hospital. Jackson Women’s health Organization OB-GYNs are all from out of state and say hospitals won’t give them the privilege. The owner sued and a federal judge ruled the law could go into effect, but the clinic could not be closed while its suit is still pending.
The lawsuit is scheduled for trial March 3.
