Hattiesburg native Vasti Jackson will headline the Best of the Blues II concert Saturday night in Natchez.
The fiery Grammy-nominated guitar man will showcase selections of B.B. King, Robert Johnson, Muddy Waters, John Lee Hooker, Howling’ Wolf, Willie Dixon, Elmore James and many other Mississippi Bluesmen.
The event is part of the Natchez Festival of Music: the primary sponsor of live, world-class music and theater in southwest Mississippi and the eastern region of central Louisiana (aka: the Miss-Lou).
While the Natchez Festival of Music is considered to be held year-around, the peak of the series is always the May Festival Season.
From their website: “The Festival provides positive performing opportunities for outstanding up and coming young artists during the Season and leading up to the Season with the outreach school enrichment program in the Miss-Lou. The Festival produced its first season in 1991, and that tradition has continued each May in Natchez—the gem of the Miss-Lou. It produces and features operas, operettas, Broadway musicals, jazz, recitals, and special concerts. Its educational enrichment outreach programs reach more than 10,000 K-6 grade children in the Miss-Lou each year.”
