The polls will open across the state for local primary elections. What do you need to know before casting your ballot?
Before tomorrow morning, take some time to make sure you’re prepared to vote in your local primary election.
Are you registered to vote?
- If you haven’t registered it’s too late to do so for the primary, but not to late for the general election on June 6th. Visit your local circuit clerks office or go HERE to find out how to register
- If you are registered but you need to change your information, you can still do that online HERE.
Do you know where to go?
- You can search your polling location at www.sos.ms.gov. The polls will be open from 7 to 7 on Tuesday May 2, 2017.
Supporting a candidate? Don’t campaign too close.
- It is against the law to campaign for a candidate withing 150 feet of a polling location.
Don’t see the person you want on the ballot?
- It is required by state law to allow for write-in’s of a candidate on the ballot, however that is only allowed if someone already on the ballot has died, resigned, withdrawn, or been removed.
The deadline to register for the general election is May 6. That election will be held exactly a month later on June 6.
