MDA plans to boast ‘natural incentives’ over lost movie incentives

When the last legislative session nixed incentives for movers and shakers in the movie industry to film in Mississippi, the Mississippi Development Authority was left to determine how to still attract movie makers to the state.

Georgia is currently leading over the Magnolia state in the business of show business, according to MDA executive director Glenn McCollough.

“They’ve got the Hartsfield International Airport,” said McCollough. “Those folks like to fly in and out all the time. But we have the Jackson Medgar Wiley Evers International Airport, and a good transportation system.”

McCollough said that while MDA will be partnering with businesses who can offer incentives to filmmakers on the local level, the state has natural incentives that can attract the industry back to Mississippi.

“We’ve got the beauty of the Mississippi Delta, there’s Central Mississippi, the Pine Belt and our Gulf Coast,” said McCollough. “We believe that the state of Mississippi offers many natural venues for people who want to produce movies.”
