Folks gather for MEC’s Annual Meeting

Hundreds of people showed up Thursdays for MEC’s 68th Annual Meeting in Jackson.

Students, venders and business persons alike, all gathered to discuss some of the positive steps the state of Mississippi is taking in order to improve the economy.

According to the U.S. Labor Department, Mississippi unemployment rate for the month of March was 5 percent. The lowest level since the current survey began in 1976.

Below is a video of the Economics of Transportation conference which dealt with the states dire need of an improved and repaired infrastructure.

  • Paula Dowell, Ph.d (Principal and Director of Economics at Cambridge Systematics, Inc)
  • Mike McCormick (President of Mississippi Farm Bureau Federation)
  • Rodney Grogan (President of MMC Materials, Inc)
  • Scott Waller (Moderator and Executive Vice President and COO of the Mississippi Economic Council)

Following the Economics of Transportation discussion, Erin and Ben Napier of HGTV’s Home Town spoke about their love for Laurel, Mississippi and a desire to shed light on the states positive attributes.

Along with conferences, the MEC spent time honoring some the state best and brightest high school students.

Finally, folks attending the event got to enjoy a sit down with Mississippi music legend Mac McAnally.
